Today, June 23, 2022, marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX being passed by Congress and signed into law by President Richard Nixon.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 24, 2022) – On Monday night, longtime local native Reverend Vincent Dial passed away following his battle with pancreatic cancer. Reverend Dial, the senior pastor at Bethel Christian Church, served as the ETSU Football Chaplain from 2015-22 and was a pillar in the community as he remained active until his passing.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 18, 2022) – On Wednesday morning, HERO Sports released its FCS Preseason Top-25 poll and the Bucs are slated fifth overall. ETSU receives the high recognition after posting a record-setting season in the fall of 2021, advancing to the FCS quarterfinals and racking up 11 wins in the process.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 12, 2022) – The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by Tennessee Lottery, announced the honorees for its 2022 Achievement Awards on Thursday morning. ETSU Football was named the Male Amateur Team of the Year. The honor will be formally presented as part of the hall’s 2022 Banquet, presented by the Tennessee Titans on July 23 at the Omni Nashville Downtown.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 26, 2022) – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced Timmy Dorsey (Oakland, Calif.) and Joe Schreiber (Chanhassen, Minn.) as recipients for the All-American Athlete Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award. This specific award recognizes their athletic accomplishments and their dedication to strength and conditioning. Dorsey and Schreiber were nominated by Assistant Athletic Director for Football Performance Dave Lawson.

Grimes, a former coach at ETSU, comes back to Johnson City to coach the defensive backs. Meanwhile, Horn will take over as the new wide receivers coach for ETSU.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2022) – The All-American honors continue piling in for Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) as he earned a spot on the Walter Camp All-American Team. Holmes joins Chattanooga’s Cole Strange as the only two Southern Conference members on the All-American squad.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2022) – On Monday afternoon, Phil Steele Magazine announced its FCS All-American, Freshman All-American and All-Southern Conference teams. Six different Bucs earned spots on the All-American teams, including two on the Freshman All-American squad. In addition, the Bucs earned 18 spots on the Phil Steele All-SoCon team.

(Dec. 16, 2021) – The Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA), in coordination with the 15 FCS conference offices has announced this year’s FCS ADA All-American Team. Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) was recognized as the top running back according to the FCS ADA, taking the lone running back slot on the All-American Team.

CHICAGO, Ill. (Dec. 7, 2021) – The votes are in for the 2021 Walter Payton Award and ETSU running back Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) is one of the top three vote getters for the award. The Walter Payton Award is presented to the National Offensive Player of the Year in Division I FCS. The winner will be announced on Friday, Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas, the night before the FCS National Championship at the National Awards Banquet.

Shakir will be taking over the responsibilities of the defensive line, working under defensive coordinator Billy Taylor.

The Bucs placed 249 student-athletes on the 2020-21 list, just shy of the program record 262 selections last year.
As a running joke within the East Tennessee State football program, somebody will point to a player in a photo from 25 years ago and claim it’s Jared Folks, who’s currently starring for the Buccaneers defense.

(July 8, 2021) – The first football preseason Top 25 poll has been released and the Buccaneers find themselves sitting in a two-way tie for 23rd on the HERO Sports’ Preseason Top 25.
