JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2021) – It doesn’t get any sweeter than this! It is playoff football and the Bucs are set to host Kennesaw State in the first playoff game at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. The rivalry will be renewed on Saturday as the two foes take the gridiron at 2 p.m.

Before Saturday is officially here, let’s review the Top Things to Know brought to you by Citizens Bank. 

No. 1 – FCS Playoffs: The Bucs punched their ticket into the FCS Playoffs after handling Mercer in the de facto Southern Conference championship game, earning the No. 7 seed along the way. This is the second time in the Coach Sanders era that ETSU has made the playoffs and the first time since 1996 that the Bucs will host a playoff game.

No. 2 – Kings of the SoCon: ETSU was crowned royalty in the SoCon after the 38-35 win over the Bears. Fans can commemorate the win with SoCon Champ shirts that will be given out in Lot 21 prior to the game. A limited number of shirts will be available, so get them while you can.

No. 3 – COVID-19 Policy: As part of our ongoing efforts to protect the health of all members of our community, ETSU strongly encourages students, faculty, staff and visitors to wear face coverings in outdoor settings when physical distancing is not possible. Face coverings continue to be required in most indoor campus locations.

No. 4 – Kickoff: Kickoff for Saturday’s FCS playoff game against Kennesaw State is scheduled for an official 2:02 p.m. start time. Gates to the stadium will open at 12:00 p.m.

No. 5 – Buc Walk: The coveted Buc Walk will begin two hours prior to each home game. For Saturday’s game, the Buc Walk will commence at 12:00 p.m.

No. 6 – Ticket Information: Fans can purchase tickets to watch the Bucs take on the Owls in the first playoff game in Greene Stadium history. For more information, click here.

No. 7 – Broadcast Information: The Buccaneer Sports Network (BSN) will provide ETSU fans with complete pregame, in-game and postgame coverage on the Bucs’ flagship station WXSM-AM 640 and affiliate station 104.9 FM NASH ICON.

The BSN begins its pregame programing one hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff with the 30-minute-long Tennessee Lottery Tailgate Show, followed by the Randy Sanders Pregame Show serviced by Tommie’s Plumbing which will lead up to 30 minutes prior to kickoff. The Appalachian Orthopaedic Countdown to Kickoff will then lead into the final moments before kickoff.     

The broadcast team of Jay Sandos, color analyst Matt Wihljelm and sideline Kevin Brown, along with studio hosts Mike Gallagher and Don Helman will provide ETSU fans all the information they need to complement their game-day activities.

At halftime, the crew will have the Zaxby’s Halftime Show, while fans can tune into the Mullican Flooring Post Game Show for a full wrap up, with game statistics, players and coach interviews, and other post-game information.  

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the team of Michael Reghi (play-by-play) and Je’Rod Cherry (analyst) providing the call.

No. 8 – Loud NOISES!: Fans are reminded that Greene Stadium features a cannon will be utilized during Saturday’s game.

No. 9 - Food City Zone: The Food City Zone will host all fun-filled pregame activities three hours before kickoff. Inflatables will be open at 9:30 a.m. The Food City Fan Zone is located between Lots 21 and 22 near the main roundabout entering campus from State of Franklin Road.

No. 10 - Tailgating: Parking lots on campus open at 8 a.m. for tailgating on game days. Click here for the game day parking map.

No. 11 - Clear Bag Policy and Enhanced Security: ETSU has a clear bag policy for all home football games inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. In addition, new security procedures including metal detectors and security wands will be employed at entry gates. Prohibited items inside the stadium will include the following:

  • Outside food and beverages (including alcoholic beverages)
  • Illegal drugs
  • Firearms
  • Tobacco Products
  • Strollers
  • Backpacks
  • Pets
  • Umbrellas
  • Camping/Tailgating chairs
