Football Releases Walk-On Tryout Information

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 19, 2022) – ETSU football head coach George Quarles and his staff released information on Friday regarding an upcoming tryout for walk-on players.

On Tuesday, Aug. 23, the ETSU coaching staff will hold a meeting for all ETSU students who are interested in trying out for the team. The initial meeting will take place at 7 p.m., in the Football Team Room, which is located inside of the Mini Dome room W141. 

The Tuesday meeting will inform students of the requirements which MUST BE COMPLETED BY the follow-up meeting, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 26 at 4:00 p.m., in room W141 of the Mini Dome. Those requirements include filling out and returning a medical information packet, which can be accessed HERE, providing your E#, as well as providing proof of passing a physical within one year of the tryout date. Please note, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN THE ON-FIELD TRYOUT

Below is a list of non-medical requirements that must be done by the Friday, Aug. 26 follow up meeting. 

  • Bring two letters of recommendation from – high school head coach and high school/college guidance counselor or core course teacher
  • Bring a physical highlight video or provide an online link to highlights
  • Be a full-time ETSU student (12 or more credit hours); ETSU graduate student (9 hours)
  • Must have a grade-point-average of 2.50 or higher (please bring unofficial transcript for college courses if applicable)
  • Freshmen need to bring their high school transcripts
  • Must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center and receive final academic and amateurism certification.
