JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 20, 2022) – Homecoming weekend is upon us in Johnson City, as ETSU football welcomes No. 15 Samford to William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Before Saturday’s showdown and Homecoming festivities, here are the Top Things to Know brought to you by Citizens Bank.
No. 1 – Kickoff: Saturday’s game will kickoff at 3:32 p.m. inside Greene Stadium. Stadium gates will open at 1:30 p.m.
No. 2 – Ticket Information: Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday’s game against Samford, as well as season tickets for basketball, online. For more information, click here. Students can pick up their tickets all week at the Carrier Center located on the second floor of the Culp Center or at the gate on gameday.
No. 3 – Cheers! – Starting this month, fans can purchase beer inside William B. Greene, Jr. stadium. To accommodate this, the bookstore will be relocating to the main entrance on the east side of the stadium. For more information related to beer sales at the stadium, click here.
No. 4 – Homecoming: All former ETSU Athletics alumni coming back to campus on Saturday are encouraged to stop by Lot 21 on Saturday for a special tailgate and to pick up a commemorative Homecoming pin.
ETSU will look to win its second straight Homecoming game on Saturday. Since returning football to campus in 2015, the Bucs are 4-2 on Homecoming with wins over Cumberland (2016), Robert Morris (2017), Gardner-Webb (2018) and, most recently, then-No. 18 VMI (2021).
No. 5 – Band Performance: Due to time constraints and Homecoming court, the ETSU Marching Bucs will not perform at halftime, but has instead elected to perform its full show after the game. Fans are requested to stay off the field after the game as players and team personnel clear the field. Fans are encouraged to stick around to watch the band performance after the game.
No. 6 – Tailgating: For all Saturday home games this season, parking lots on campus open at 8 a.m. for tailgating. Click here for the game day parking map.
No. 7 – Pepsi Pregame: ETSU will have a DJ with live music at Lot 21 from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
No. 8 – Buc Walk: The much-anticipated Buc Walk will begin two hours prior to the game. For Saturday’s game, the Buc Walk will commence at 1:30 p.m.
No. 9 – Meet our basketball teams: ETSU men’s and women’s basketball will be out in the tailgate lots prior to the game. During their time in the tailgate lots, the Bucs will be passing out koozies, courtesy of Bank of Tennessee. The koozies have ETSU’s home basketball schedule printed on them. Along with receiving the free giveaway, fans will have the opportunity to take selfies with the players and post them on your social media accounts. The selfie contest will allow fans a chance to win a handful of prizes. Those who post selfies with members of the men’s basketball team and use the hashtag (#BucsGoBeyondMBB) and the women’s players using the hashtag (#BucsGoBeyondWBB) will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from Bank of Tennessee.

No. 10 – Men’s Basketball Open Scrimmage: ETSU men’s basketball will hold an open scrimmage starting at 10:30 a.m. inside the Basler Center of Physical Activity (CPA). Fans are welcome to attend this free scrimmage and get their first glimpse of Buccaneer hoops.
No. 11 – Homecoming Futbol: The Southern Conference leading ETSU men’s soccer team will also host its Homecoming match on Saturday at 12 p.m. inside Summers-Taylor Stadium as the Bucs take on Furman. ETSU men’s soccer alumni are invited to watch the match, head over to Greene Stadium to take in some ETSU football, then meet up for an alumni social after the football game.
No. 12 – Food City Zone: The Food City Zone will open three hours prior to kickoff for all home games, with inflatables for children and other fun-filled pregame activities. The Food City Fan Zone is located between Lots 21 and 22 near the main roundabout entering campus from State of Franklin Road.
No. 13 – LOUD NOISES: Fans are reminded the touchdown cannon will be utilized during Saturday’s game.
No. 14 – GIVE NO QUARTER: Speaking of loud noises, ETSU encourages its fans to GET LOUD for the “no quarter fourth quarter.” Food City red rally towels are available to the first 1,500 fans at the Food City Fan Zone following the Buc Walk. A video presentation will begin at the end of the third quarter, prompting fans to wave their rally towels, “hoist the colours” and cheer on the Bucs to show no mercy to the opposition.
No. 15 — Guest Services: New to ETSU this year is the Guest Services tent located at the East side of the stadium where fans can ask questions on game day. The tent will also provide a free photo service for fans to have pictures taken in front of the commemorative foundation rock at the concourse.
No. 16 — SAAC Cold Weather Clothing Drive: The ETSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be hosting a clothing drive, starting on Homecoming, to collect cold weather gear for Johnson City’s residents in need. Donation boxes will be located at the main entrance of the William B. Greene Stadium and will be donated to the Salvation Army of Johnson City. Please be sure all donated items are washed prior to dropping off. Donations are greatly appreciated!

No. 17 – Broadcast Information: The Buccaneer Sports Network (BSN) will provide ETSU fans with complete pregame, in-game and postgame coverage on the Bucs’ flagship station WXSM-AM 640 and affiliate station 104.9 FM NASH ICON.
BSN begins its pregame programing one hour and 30 minutes prior to kickoff with the 30-minute Tennessee Lottery Tailgate Show, followed by the George Quarles Pregame Show presented by Tommie’s Plumbing which will lead up to 30 minutes prior to kickoff. The Appalachian Orthopedic Countdown to Kickoff will then lead into the final moments before kickoff.
The broadcast team of “Voice of the Bucs” Jay Sandos, color analyst Matt Wihljelm, sideline reporter Robert Harper and stat-man Don Helman will provide ETSU fans all the information they need to complement their game-day activities.
At halftime, the crew will have the Mr. Electric Halftime Show, while fans can tune into the Mullican Flooring Post Game Show for a full wrap up, with game statistics, players and coach interviews and other post-game information.
Saturday’s game is the SoCon Game of the Week and will be carried live on Nexstar and on ESPN+ with the team of Pete Yanity (play-by-play) and Jared Singleton (analyst).
No. 18 - Clear Bag Policy and Enhanced Security: ETSU has a clear bag policy for all home football games inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. In addition, security procedures including metal detectors and security wands will be employed at entry gates. Prohibited items inside the stadium will include the following:
