JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 1, 2023) – The ETSU football team wrapped up spring practice by holding its annual Ballad Health Blue-Gold Game on Saturday at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.
Saturday marked the completion of 15 practices by the Blue and Gold, which began on Feb. 28.
OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
- The ETSU offense registered 234 yards on the ground and 73 yards through the air
- Quarterback Tyler Riddell (Tampa, Fla.) took the first play from scrimmage to the house as he ripped off a 70-yard touchdown, marking the first of four touchdowns by the Buccaneer offense
- Einaj Carter (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) accounted for the second rushing touchdown – an 18-yard burst on a fourth-down play … Carter also hauled in two catches
- Adriel Clark (Suwanee, Ga.) led the Buccaneer receivers with two receptions for 25 yards
- Adrian Johnson (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was the leading running back on Saturday as he totaled 46 yards on the ground and scored on a two-yard scamper
- Buccaneer tight end Tim Stayskal (Nolensville, Tenn.) scored the final touchdown of the day on a two-yard run up the middle
- Joining Riddell behind center on Saturday were Baron May (New Philadelphia, Ohio), Haynes Eller (Ooltewah, Tenn.), William Riddle (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Drew Gregg (Newport, Tenn.)
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS
- The ETSU defense totaled 49 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and two interceptions on Saturday
- Gabe Wescott (Greenwood, Del.) and Jayvon Henderson (Auburn, Ga.) provided the defensive takeaways
- Wescott led the defense with five tackles, while Stephen Scott (Greensboro, N.C.) added four hits and one sack
- Henderson also added two pass breakups to go with his interception
- Paxton Corkery (Jefferson, Ga.) provided the other sack for the Blue and Gold to go with three tackles
- Max Evans (Middletown, Ohio) had one solo tackle and rushed the quarterback twice
SPECIAL TEAMS
- Nate Brackett (Rockwood, Tenn.) averaged 43.2 yards per punt … Brackett had five punts for 216 yards, including a long of 51 yards
- Ewan Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn.) made field goals from 30 and 35-yards
- Trace Kelley (Gallatin, Tenn.) finished with four punts and made his lone PAT
