Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State University athletic department announced today that Shannon Huffstetler has signed a National Letter of Intent to join head coach Ed DeChellis' basketball program for the 2001-02 season.

The Mount Holly, N.C. native, played the last two seasons at Brunswick Community College where he was a two-time All-region honoree. The 6'7" power forward averaged 16.8 points and 11.5 rebounds per game for head coach Walter Shaw. A fine student-athlete, Huffstetler was on the Dean's List both years.

Huffstetler played prep basketball at East Gaston High School.

"Shannon is a strong post player that is extremely athletic," DeChellis said. "He solidifies our front line with his maturity and athletic ability."

The addition of Huffstetler completes the 2001 recruiting class. He joins James Anthony, Keeton Brooks, Michael Toliver, and Tiras Wade in a quality group.

"For the second consecutive year we have brought in an extremely strong recruiting class," DeChellis said. "I would like to compliment my assistant coaches on all of their hard work."
