Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State junior guard Dimeco Childress (Columbia, Tenn.) earned Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, it was announced today by the Conference office.
The initial award for the 2000-01 season encompassed all games played from the beginning of the season until November 26. In ETSUs four-game span, Childress averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 29.0 minutes played. He shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field, 48.1 percent from three-point range (13-of-27) and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line.
Childress enjoyed back-to-back career games against Virginia Commonwealth (Nov. 22) and at Vanderbilt (Nov. 24). Against the Rams, Childress set a career mark in field goals (8), three-pointers (4) and rebounds (7). In ETSUs next game, Childress set a career best with 30 points and tied a career mark with eight field goals. Against the Commodores, the shooting guard made seven three pointers, an ETSU single-game record.
The Bucs leading scorer, Childress has made at least one three pointer in every game this season. Dating back to last season, the junior has made a trey in 10 consecutive games.
The Bucs (1-4) return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2 when they travel to Morehead, Ky. to face Morehead State.
