Men's Basketball Defeats Lynchburg, 65-42

Johnson City, Tenn. -- Led by senior Adrian Meeks 14 points and nine rebounds, the East Tennessee State Buccaneers defeated the Lynchburg College Hornets, 65-42, in both teams season opener, at ETSUs Brooks Gym.

Meeks went 7-of-9 from the field and snatched one steal in 25 minutes. Senior D.J. McDuffie was the other Buccaneer to score in double digits with 10. Lynchburgs Luke Ensor paced the visitors with 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc.

The Bucs opened the game on fire, jumping out to 13-2 lead. Lynchburg fought back and tied the game 16-16 at 10:08 before ETSU went on a 21-6 run to end the half. Meeks led all scorers with 10 at the break as the Bucs shot 50.0 percent from the floor (15-of-30).

ETSU (1-0) increased its advantage to a game-high 25 points (51-26) with a layup by junior Cliff Decoster at 13:49 of the second half. The lead remained around 20 points before the final 23-point decision.

The taller home squad dominated in the paint, outscoring Lynchburg 30-4 inside. Aside from Meeks game-high nine boards, senior Renaldo Johnson grabbed eight rebounds. Lynchburg (0-1) shot 29.5 percent from the field in the game.

The Bucs return to action at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 when they travel to Knoxville to face nationally -ranked Tennessee.
