JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2006) - A month before kicking off their 2006-2007 season the ETSU men's basketball team visited the Salvation Army in downtown Johnson City.

"This is something new for the team," said senior center Brad Nuckles (Council, Va.). "Coach Bartow is always finding new things for us to do around the community. Experiences like this make you humble and grateful."

The team became the kitchen staff for the evening as they served food, refreshments and delivered trays directly to client's tables. "We're excited to be here," said head coach Murry Bartow. "It is good to get the guys down here, we like to do things in the community."

The local Salvation Army serves approximately 80 clients every night. "This is really a treat for our clients," said Salvation Army business administrator Herman Rice. "Most of these people don't get to go out to eat in restaurants so this is really a treat for them."

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from it student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
