JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2019) -- Thanks to a season-high 22-point performance in the win over Appalachian State, ETSU senior guard Tray Boyd III (Memphis, Tenn.) was tabbed Southern Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Monday.
Boyd helped guide the Buccaneers to a pair of wins last week after averaging 13.5 points, along with shooting 50 percent from the field (9-of-18), 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.
The senior guard began the week with a season-high 22-point effort in the 78-69 win over Appalachian State on Tuesday night inside Freedom Hall. Boyd shot 7-of-12 (4-of-8 from beyond the arc) and dished out four assists in 31 minutes of play. On Saturday, Boyd finished with five points, three assists and one steal in the 67-63 win at Little Rock.
Following last week’s wins, ETSU is off to a 7-1 start, matching its best start since the 2016-17 campaign when the Bucs won the SoCon en route to making their 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Boyd and the Bucs continue their three-game road swing Wednesday night when ETSU opens conference play at The Citadel.
