GREENVILLE, S.C. (Jan. 11, 2022) – The ETSU men’s basketball team wraps up its busy stretch as the Buccaneers play their fourth game in an eight-day span Wednesday night at Furman. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Timmons Arena.  

ABOUT THE BUCS  

  • ETSU has won two of its first three during this NBA-style stretch as the Bucs are coming off an 87-69 win over Western Carolina on Monday night inside Freedom Hall.
  • With the win, ETSU improved to 10-7 overall and 2-2 in SoCon play.
  • The Bucs shot a season high 58 percent from the field and tied a season high with 34 made field goals.
  • The Blue and Gold assisted on 22 of those 34 makes and drained eight three-pointers – five coming from Jordan King (Albany, N.Y.) … King tied career high with those five threes and netted a career best 23 points.
  • David Sloan (Louisville, Ky.) posted his first double-double as he scored 12 points and dished out a career-high 10 assists.
  • Jordan King has made at least one three in 15 of his last 16 games after opening the season 0-for-5 at Appalachian State.
  • David Sloan has dished out at least one assist in all 17 games this season and has recorded at least one assist in all 41 games played in an ETSU uniform … Over his last five games, Sloan is averaging 17.6 points, while shooting 54 percent from the field (34-63) and 48 percent from three (13-27)
  • ETSU has split its first four conference games to start the season … In conference only games, the Bucs lead the SoCon in three-point field goal defense (.271) and rank third in rebounding offense (36.2) … Individually, David Sloan ranks ninth in scoring (16.0), sixth in field goal percentage (.545), third in assists (4.5), tied for seventh in steals (2.0) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (.429) … Ty Brewer ranks sixth in rebounding (7.0) and fourth in offensive rebounds (2.8), while he and Jaden Seymour are tied for ninth in blocked shots (0.8).
  • When it comes to the month of January, the Bucs play stellar basketball … Since 2015-16, the Blue and Gold have gone 42-10 (.808) in the month of January, while winning 32 of its last 37 games in January … The 42 wins during this span are the sixth-most in the country only behind Belmont (47), Vermont (45), Gonzaga (45), Winthrop (45) and Sam Houston State (43).
  • Since Feb. 16, 1987 in a game against Davidson, the Bucs have made at least one 3-pointer in 1,077 consecutive games ... ETSU was 0-for-8 in that 1987 game ... The Bucs currently rank as the fifth-longest streak in the NCAA, with UNLV topping the list with 1,143 games.

ABOUT FURMAN 

  • Furman has won back-to-back games and four of its last five as the Paladins sit at 11-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.
  • The Paladins won at UNCG 58-54 on Jan. 5 and are coming off an 81-66 victory over Mercer on Saturday.
  • Furman is averaging 78.1 points per game and allowing 71.1 per contest.
  • The Paladins lead all Division I in total assists (302), rank third in three-pointers made (198), fourth in three-point field goals per game (11.6), fifth in three-point field goal attempts (510), 13th in total steals (146), 18th in three-point field goal percentage (38.8) and 28th in assist/turnover ratio (1.43).
  • Furman has three players averaging over 15 points per game – Alex Hunter (16.0), Mike Bothwell (15.5) and Jalen Slawson (15.5).

  • Hunter ranks second nationally in made threes and fourth in three-point attempts (146), while Slawson ranks sixth in total steals (36).
  • Furman is 7-1 at home this season with its lone setback coming against Navy, 77-66 … The Paladins have won 32 of their last 35 games inside Timmons Arena and are 58-9 at home since 2017-18.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Wednesday marks the 64th all-time meeting, with ETSU holding a 33-30 lead.
  • The series has been tightly contested as 39 of the 63 games have been decided by nine points or less, 26 by five points or less, 20 by three points or less and five by one point … The Bucs have scored 4,778 points in the series, compared to Furman totaling 4,671, equating to a plus-1.7 scoring margin by the Blue and Gold … In the 26 games decided by five points or less, both teams have scored exactly 1,924 points.
  • Both teams defended their home floor a year ago with Furman winning the first meeting 78-66 in Greenville and the Bucs returning the favor 71-62 a week later in Johnson City.
  • Since the Bucs returned to the league in 2014-15, neither team has swept the regular season series (last sweep was by ETSU in 1993-94; Furman's last sweep came in 1986-87).
