Tip-off set for 6 p.m. inside Freedom Hall

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 3, 2022) – With ETSU men’s basketball set to open regular season play on Monday, the Buccaneers get one last tune-up as the Blue and Gold host Limestone in an exhibition game Friday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.

ETSU is coming off a 15-17 season where the Bucs went 7-11 in the Southern Conference  

The Bucs were picked sixth in the preseason SoCon polls

Junior guard Jordan King (Albany, N.Y.) landed a spot on the Preseason all-SoCon Team after averaging 14.6 points and netting 97 three-pointers in his first season with the Blue and Gold

The Bucs return four players from last year’s roster who logged minutes, including starters Jordan King and Jaden Seymour (Charlotte, N.C.) … Overall, ETSU only returns 28 percent of its scoring, 27 percent of its rebounding and 22 percent of its minutes played in 2021-22 … King totaled 466 points, 105 rebounds and 1,047 minutes, Seymour posted 145 points, 113 rebounds and 562 minutes, while Kordell Charles (Ontario, Canada) and Cameron George (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined for 30 points, 23 rebounds and 136 minutes

After losing three starters and eight players from last year’s team, second-year head coach Desmond Oliver and his staff brought in nine new guys for the 2022-23 season … Five of the Bucs are transfers as DeAnthony Tipler came in mid-season a year ago from Coastal Carolina, Brock Jancek made the short move over from Tennessee to ETSU, Jalen Haynes played one season at Virginia Tech, Josh Taylor spent two years at Georgia, Jamarius Hairston is a graduate transfer from Lees-McRae and Justice Smith a transfer from Mansfield University … In addition, three true freshmen join the Buccaneer roster in Jeremy Gregory (6-6, forward, Charlotte, N.C.), Kristian Shaw (6-5, forward, Hendersonville, Tenn.), and Braden Ilic (6-9, forward, Morristown, Tenn.) … In addition, guard Allen Strothers from Newport News, Va., redshirted the 2021-22 season and will expect to see significant minutes this season.

The 2022-23 Buccaneer roster features 14 players ... ETSU’s roster consists of two Graduate players, one senior, two juniors, five sophomores and four freshmen … Four players hail from the Volunteer state, while three are from North Carolina, two from New York and one each from Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Virginia, while Kordell Charles is from Ontario, Canada.


  • Limestone is coming off a 10-17 season where the Saints went 8-16 in the South Atlantic Conference
  • The Saints were picked to finish eighth in the SAC, while junior forward Ben Gahlert was named to 2022-23 SAC Preseason All-Conference First Team
  • Gahlert led Limestone in scoring last season where he averaged 15.8 points per game and also added 7.1 rebounds per contest
  • Limestone returns eight players from last season’s squad … Along with Gahlert, guard Isayah Owens is also back after averaging 12.7 points and leading the team with 54 made threes a year ago
  • The Saints did lose their top scorer in Ayo Dada as he posted 16.3 points in 16 contests last year
  • As a team, Limestone averaged 72.5 points a year ago, while allowing 74.9 points
  • Limestone is coached by Kyle Perry who is in his fourth season at the helm … Perry was previously the head coach at USC Upstate and played for Bob Cremins at Georgia Tech


  • ETSU and Limestone have met twice in regular season contests with the Bucs winning both games
  • The Bucs defeated the Saints 85-57 on Dec. 4, 2016
  • The first meeting was on Dec. 15, 1997 when the Bucs won 75-55
  • The two teams met in an exhibition to start the 2019-20 season where Joe Hugley finished with 11 points (4-of-6 from the field) and three rebounds in 11 minutes
