ETSU, Tech set to meet for 75th time on Sunday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 19, 2022) – Coming off a hard-fought, physical game with Little Rock on Thursday, ETSU men’s basketball looks to carry momentum from that win into a an in-state road game with Tennessee Tech on Sunday. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. inside the Eblen Center.

  • ETSU improved to 3-1 following an 84-76 win over Little Rock on Thursday night inside Freedom Hall. 
  • DeAnthony Tipler (Ashland, Miss.) and Jordan King (Albany, N.Y.) combined for 40 points, while the Bucs went to the free throw line 42 times … Tipler scored a season-high 21 points, while King added 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists … King set career highs in free throws made (9), free throw attempts (12) and rebounds 
  • As a team, ETSU shot a season-high 52 percent against the Trojans as the Bucs finished 29 of 56 from the field … The Bucs are 81-5 when shooting over 50 percent since 2015-16
  • The Bucs made 21 free throws Thursday night … Since the 2015-16 season, ETSU has made 20-plus free throws 36 times with the Bucs winning 32 of those contests … The Bucs are 1-1 this year when making 20 or more free throws

SERIES HISTORY

Sunday marks the 75th all-time meeting between the two in-state rivals with the series being deadlocked at 37-37 … This is the first meeting between the two since Dec. 2, 2015 when Tennessee Tech won 63-61 in Cookeville … In that meeting, the Bucs went 5-of-9 at the free throw line, compared to the Golden Eagles netting 31 of their 38 attempts … T.J. Cromer led the Bucs with 15 points and Peter Jurkin added 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out in 18 minutes … In total, three Bucs fouled out in that contest where ETSU was called for 29 fouls, compared to TTU only having 17 … ETSU’s last win in the series came on Dec. 16, 2014, which was an 87-79 victory in Johnson City … The Bucs’ last win in Cookeville came on Nov. 24, 2008, a 78-65 victory … The first ever game played in the series was in 1922-23 when the Bucs won 45-16, while the teams met three times in OVC Tournament play with Tennessee Tech coming out on top in all three – 1964 and 1965 first round and 1967 semifinal.
