First career Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week award for the junior
MACON, Ga. (Sept. 25, 2013) – ETSU junior Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.) has been named Atlantic Sun Men’s Runner of the Week after his performance Friday at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational, the league office announced Wednesday.
The accolade is the first of his career for the Kingsport native.
At the Invite on Sept. 20, Chase recorded a third-place overall finish with a time of 25:30.20 and was the catalyst that led to the men’s team finishing first overall with a score of 48. His time also led all collegiate competitors in a field featuring numerous unattached and alumni runners.
The junior’s performance at the Invite marks the second time in as many weeks that he has been among the top-two finishers for ETSU. At the season-opening Commodore Classic on Saturday, Sept. 14, Chase was the second Buccaneer to cross the finish line with a 17 out of 168 overall finish and a time of 25:33.29. This mark was an aid in helping the Blue and Gold earn a third-place overall team finish.
After opening the season strong with a pair of back-to-back top-three team finishes, the ETSU men’s cross country team currently ranks ninth in the NCAA Division I South Region, as voted on by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
