Bucs Preparing for USC Upstate Invite on Saturday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2017) – ETSU’s men’s cross country remains at #15 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region poll, announced Monday afternoon.

It’s the second straight week at #15 for the Bucs, who returned to the poll on September 18 after a one-week absence. The Bucs got back in the rankings after a strong 3rd-place showing in a 12-team field in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on September 15.

ETSU put three runners in the top 20 at the meet in Blacksburg, Va. Freshman Ben Varghese (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 5th in his collegiate debut, with Adam Bradtmueller (Sarasota, Fla.) finishing 17th, just ahead of Malick Gamechu (Johnson City, Tenn.) in 18th.

The Southern Conference named Varghese its Runner of the Week after his performance.

The Bucs have appeared in ten of the last 15 regular-season USTFCCCA South Region polls.

Both ETSU cross country teams are preparing for the USC Upstate Invite in Spartanburg, S.C., on Saturday, September 30. The women’s race begins at 9:00 am, while the men begin their race at 9:45.
