Buccaneer men and women squads to run at USC Upstate Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 1, 2022) – The ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams open the 2022 season Friday night when the Blue and Gold run in the USC Upstate Eye Opener.

Meet: USC Upstate Eye Opener

Location: Milliken Research Center (Spartanburg, S.C.)

Time: Women’s 5K – 6:30 p.m. | Men’s 8K – 7:10 p.m.



ETSU is sending 10 women’s runners and 14 men’s runners to compete in the season opener.

  • The Buccaneer men were picked to finish second in the Southern Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll and the women were selected third. 
  • Last season, ETSU opened the year at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C., where the men placed third and the women finished sixth. 
  • The last time ETSU competed at the USC Upstate meet was in 2017 when both the men and women swept the team titles back on Sept. 30.


The Blue and Gold return to action in two weeks when ETSU heads to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational, which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16.
