SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 2, 2022) – Posting four runners in the top-10, the ETSU men’s cross country team finished runner up at the USC Upstate Eye Opener, which was held Friday night at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
Battling with conference rival Furman in the first meet of the campaign, the Blue and Gold totaled 40 points, while the Paladins won the team title with 29 points and host USC Upstate finished third with 95 points.
Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) enjoyed his best collegiate showing as he finished fourth with a time of 25:07.0, marking personal bests in both categories. Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.) and Josh Krafsur (Fort Collins, Colo.) took the seventh and eighth spots as they finished in 25:36.6 and 25:47.8, respectively. Krafsur enjoyed his first top-10 collegiate performance on Friday.
Drew Topoly of Methodist won the individual meet with a mark of 24:56.9.
ETSU freshman Xian Campbell (Chattanooga, Tenn.) shined in his first collegiate race as he registered a 10th-place finish, crossing the line in 25:59.9.
The Bucs are back in competition on Friday, Sept. 16 when ETSU travels to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.
