SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2022) – For the second time this season, ETSU’s Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) was named Southern Conference Runner of the Week, as the league office announced their weekly cross country honors on Wednesday.

Guzman ran a stellar race last Saturday at the Live in Lou Classic as he turned in a personal best 8K time with a mark of 23:59.3 from E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. Overall, Guzman finished 17th in a field of 307 runners.

Guzman, the top finisher among Southern Conference schools, was in 101st at the 2.1K split with a time of 6:12. From there, the Buccaneer leader moved into 80th at the 3.9K mark before passing 63 runners down the stretch top finish in the top-20.

Last Saturday’s field featured runners from Louisville, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Cincinnati, Memphis, Furman and Mercer.

Guzman collected his first SoCon Runner of the Week award for cross country on Sept. 21 after finishing fifth at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational back on Sept. 16.

Guzman and the Bucs gear up for the last tune-up before the conference championships when ETSU travels to North Carolina for the VertCross Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14.
