Guzman earns all-South Regional honors  

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Nov. 11, 2022) – ETSU sophomore Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) finished 24th at the NCAA South Regional, while the Buccaneers placed 10th as the regional meet was held Friday morning at the John Hunt Cross Country Course in Huntsville, Ala.

Guzman, who paced the Blue and Gold in all six meets this season, clocked in with a personal best time of 30:22.5, over a minute faster than his previous best 10K time. Guzman was in 37th early on and moved up 11 spots at the 3.4K mark before chasing down two runners near the finish line to post a top-25 finish. At the post-race ceremony, Guzman earned all-South Regional honors. 

Josh Krafsur (Fort Collins, Colo.) was the next Buc to cross the finish line as he placed 39th, moving past 16 runners down the stretch to finish in the top-40. Krafsur posted a personal best time of 30:58.1, which was over two minutes better than his prior mark set at last year’s regional meet where he finished in 126th.  

Gavin Cooper (LaFollette, Tenn.), running in his final cross country meet, finished 60th (31:21.1) and Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.) placed 75th (31:36.6).  

Alabama’s Victor Kiprop won the individual event with a time of 29:21.2, while Tennessee won the team event with 39 points, besting Ole Miss by 30 as the Rebels totaled 69 points.  

ETSU, who entered the meet ranked No. 9 in the regional, finished 10th with 261 points.
