JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State mens golf team shot a final-round 292 Sunday to finish in seventh in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
The Buccaneers finished the tournament with a three-round total of 876 (290-294-292), 22 strokes behind the champions, the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
The 13th ranked Buccaneers, tied for eighth after the first two rounds, used stellar play from senior Chris Wisler to propel them up the leaderboard in the final round.
Wisler, in sixth after two rounds, shot his third consecutive round under par with a 71 (-1) to earn him a third place finish, two strokes behind individual champion Nick Cassini from Georgia. The finish marks Wislers fifth top-10 finish of the season and the 17th of his career.
Sophomore Thomas Lee made the biggest move of the day, finishing in a tie for 20th (24th after two rounds) after firing a final round 1-over par 73. Sophomore Adam Riddering was the next ETSU finisher, tying for 35th at 5-over par (72-76-73=221). Senior Pat Beste finished in a tie for 57th (75-76-76=227) after shooting a final-round 76. Sophomore James Johnson was the final ETSU finisher, tying for 69th at 15-over par (81-75-75=231).
The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, April 14 in Chapel Hill, N.C. at The Intercollegiate.
