Johnson City, Tenn. -- The 19th-ranked East Tennessee State men's golf team finished their 2000 fall golf season with their best finish of the year at the prestigious Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational from Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes Resort in Hilton Head, S.C. last weekend. The Bucs finished third (287-281-280=848) out of 18 teams, 16 of which were ranked in the top 25 in the nation by Golfworld Magazine.
Pat Beste ... The senior from Sauk Center, Minn. had a 73.1 stroke average in 15 rounds during the fall season ... His best round was a 69 (-3), achieved in both the first round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions (Sept. 18) and the first round of the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational ... His best individual finish was a tie for 18th (69-71-71=211) at the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational after he fired a three-day score of 211 (-5).
Anders Hofvander ... The freshman from Bjarred, Sweden had a 78.0 stroke average in 12 rounds during the fall season ... His best round was a 73 (+1) in the second round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions on Sept. 18 ... Hofvander's best individual finish was a tie for 52nd (74-73-79=226) in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions.
James Johnson ... The sophomore from Barbados had a 74.0 stroke average in nine rounds of play in the fall season ... His best round was a 71 (-1) in the second round of the Ridges Intercollegiate on Sept. 9 ... His best individual finish also came in The Ridges Intercollegiate where he finished in a tie for 20th (74-71-72=217).
Thomas Lee ... The sophomore from Tenafly, N.J. had a 73.9 stroke average in 15 rounds of play during the fall season ... Lee's best round of the season was a 69 (-3) in the second round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions on Sept. 18 ... Lee has two top-20 finishes on the season, a 15th place finish in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions (69-70-76=215) and a 16th place finish in the Carpet Capital Classic (72-72-76=220).
Adam Riddering ... The sophomore from Maple Grove, Minn. had a 75.1 scoring average in 15 rounds of play during the fall season ... His best round of the season was a 69 (-3) in the first round of the Tennessee Tournament of Champions on Sept. 18 ... His best individual finish of the season came at the Carpet Capital Classic where he finished in a tie for 31st (73-75-76=224).
Chris Wisler ... The senior two-time NCAA All-American from Dover, Del. had a team-best 71.4 scoring average in 15 rounds of play during the fall season ... He led the Bucs to their fifth-place in the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational last weekend with a three round total of 201 (-15), good enough for a third place individual finish ... That tournament also marked two career records for Wisler; his 64 (-8) in the third round eclipsed his best single-round score and his 201 marked his best three-round score ... His previous best round was a 67, which he achieved three times in the past, last coming in the first round of The Ridges Intercollegiate (Sept. 9) ... His previous best three-round score was a 206 when he won the 2000 Bell South Intercollegiate ... He finished in the top-20 in all but one of his tournaments in the fall season, a 19th place finish in the Tennessee Tournament of Champions (72-74-71=217), a sixth place finish in the Carpet Capital Classic (70-74-73=217), a third place finish in the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational (69-68-64=201) and a second place finish in The Ridges Intercollegiate (67-73-69) ... Wisler is aiming to become the third Buccaneer to earn All-American honors three times, along with Garrett Willis (1994-96) and Keith Nolan (1995-97).
