Men's Golfers in 11th After First Two Rounds of Atlanta Intercollegiate

Johnson City, Tenn. (May 9, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team began their last tournament of the season by placing 11th after the first two rounds of the Atlanta Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia State University from Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. The Bucs finished the day with a two-round total of 597 (294-303), 22 strokes back of tournament leader Auburn, who leads the tournament after shooting a 575 (293-282) on day one. ETSU junior James Johnson (Barbados) led the Buccaneers on day one, tying for 20th after the first two rounds of play at 3-over-par (72-75=147). Johnson and four others are 13 strokes behind individual leader Graeme McDowell of UAB. Buccaneer freshman Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) is in a tie for 32nd (70-80=150) at 6-over-par after the first day of play. He was in a tie for fourth after a first-round 70, but fell on the leaderboard after shooting a second-round 80. Junior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) was the next ETSU finisher, tying for 38th (75-76=151) at 7-over-par after the first two rounds. Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotasassa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 48th (78-75=153) at 9-over-par after improving his score by three strokes in the second round of play. Fellow freshman Noel Kavanagh (Westport, Ireland) finished just one stroke behind Hobson in a tie for 51st (77-77=154) at 10-over-par after shooting consecutive 77's in the first two rounds of play. The Buccaneers men's golf team will compete in the final round of the Atlanta Intercollegiate Friday morning from Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.
