Men's Golf in 11th After First Two Rounds of Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational

Johnson City, Tenn. (Mar. 23, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team is in 11th place after the first two rounds of the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern University, Saturday from Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. The Bucs were in a tie for 10th place after firing a 294 in Saturday's first round. ETSU shot an identical 294 in the afternoon round, but fell to 11th. Augusta State, ranked no. 18 nationally, leads the tournament at 7-under-par after shooting a 284 and a 285 in today's rounds. Senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Bucs in the first two rounds of play, finishing the day in a tie for 18th at 1-over-par. He shot a first-round 73 and a second-round 72 on Saturday. Clemson's D.J. Trahan leads the tournament at 6-under-par after shooting matching 69's in his Saturday rounds. Fellow senior James Johnson (Barbados) is in a tie for 25th after shooting a first-round 72 and a second-round 74. He is one stroke behind Riddering at 2-over-par. Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotasassa, Fla.) played well on Saturday, shooting a first-round 73 and a second-round 74 to finiah in a tie for 34th at 3-over-par. Freshman Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) shot a first-round 76, but moved up the leaderboard by firing a second-round 74. He is in a tie for 57th at 6-over-par. Freshman Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) rounded out ETSU's day on the links, shooting a first-round 81 and a second-round 82 in Saturday's play. He is currently in a 74th. The Bucs return to the Forest Heights Country Club Course Sunday morning for the second round of the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational.
