Johnson City, Tenn. (Mar. 11, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team is in 10th place after the first round of the Florida State Seminole Intercollegiate from Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
East Tennessee State shot a first-round 301 on Monday, 15 strokes back of the leaders, North Carolina.
The Bucs were led by senior James Johnson (Barbados) on Monday, as he fired a first round 73. Johnson is in a four-way tie for 15th, six strokes behind individual leader, Leif Olson of Duke. Two shots back of Johnson is fellow senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.), who shot a first-round 75 to finish in a tie for 29th.
A trio of Buccaneer freshmen finished within a stroke of each other as Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) shot a 76 to finish in a tie for 41st while Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) both shot 77's to finish in a tie for 48th.
The Bucs return to action Tuesday morning for the second round of the Florida State Seminole Intercollegiate from Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
