Johnson City, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team is in a tie for ninth with Oklahoma at 7-over-par after the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic from the Rio Del Mar Country Club River Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The tournament is led by Georgia Tech, who fired a 13-under-par 275 during the first round of play.
The Bucs were led by senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) on the first day of play. Riddering shot an even-par 72 in the first round, and is tied for 19th. Senior James Johnson (Barbados) and freshman Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) also played well on day one, both shooting 2-over-par 74's and tying for 31st.
Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) finished one stroke behind Johnson and Trejos, carding a 3-over-par 75, good enough for a tie for 39th after round one. Freshman Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) rounded out ETSU's day, shooting a first-round 6-over-par 78.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow morning for the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic from the Rio Del Mar Country Club River Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
