Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State Buccaneer men's golf team shot a final-round 306 to finish in 11th place in the Ping/Golfweek Preview Invitational that concluded Sunday afternoon from the Ohio State University Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The Bucs finished at 39-over par (292-293-306=891), 29 shots behind team champion, Clemson. The Tigers led wire-to-wire in the tournament, but had to birdie the final hole to avert a late charge by Wake Forest.
Freshman Cennydd Mills continued the impressive start to his ETSU career, shooting a 2-over par 73 in the final round to finish in a tie for 19th at 6-over par (72-74-73=219). Junior Adam Riddering finished the tournament in a tie for 37th at 10-over par (73-70-80=223) after shooting a final round 9-over par 80. Fellow junior James Johnson finished one stroke behind Riddering in a tie for 43rd at 11-over par (72-74-78=224).
Freshman Noel Kavanaugh shot an 8-over par 79 to finish the tournament in a tie for 64th at 17-over par (76-75-79=230). One of the players that Kavanaugh tied with was ETSU freshman Marco Trejos, who also tied for 64th (75-79-76=230) after firing a 5-over par 76 on Sunday.
The Buccaneer men's golf team will now travel to The Farm Golf and Country Club in Dalton, Ga. for the Carpet Capital Collegiate Tournament. The tournament will tee off on Friday, Oct. 5 and will continue through Sunday, Oct. 7.
