JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 5, 2008) —  ETSU senior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) has been selected as a member of the European team for the 2008 Palmer Cup presented by Monster. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 26-27 on the 6,903 yard, par 71 Willie Park Junior designed Glasgow Golf Club Gailes Links, as the top collegiate players from the United States tee off against their counterparts from Europe.

Shaw, a preseason All-American and the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference individual champion, will be making his second straight appearance in the event. It will also mark the fifth straight year that an ETSU player has competed on the European team, as former Buc Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) played each summer from 2004 to 2007. Along with Shaw, Jonas Blixt of Florida State, Stirling's Scott Borrowman, Johnnie Caldwell of South Alabama, Indiana's Jorge Campillo, Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte, Tennessee's Charlie Ford, and Southern California's Tim Sluiter comprise the European team. Blixt, Campillo and Shaw competed in last year's matches at Caves Valley. The European team - who will be coached by Mårten Olander of Sweden - has won the past two events in Europe but trails the series, 6-4-1.

"This is a good group with a multitude of talents," said Olander. "I think we have a really good chance of winning the Cup. I'm excited to be part of the Palmer Cup and work with future stars of professional golf."
