JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2007) - The ETSU men's golf team kicked off the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges in fine fashion Friday, as the Buccaneers ended the afternoon firing a team-leading 6-under 282.

"We are off to a very good start, and I am delighted with the way our guys looked today," said head ETSU men's golf coach Fred Warren. "Overall this is a good start for our men and everyone contributed."

Freshman Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) posted his best collegiate score of his young ETSU career Friday. Enoch carded a 4-under 68, placing him in a three-way tie for second and one shot off the lead. He finished the day with six birdies and one spectacular eagle on the par-5 14th.

"I was pretty happy with my play," added Enoch. "I didn't putt very well on the front nine but it got better on the back."

Kentucky's Ben Fuqua sits atop the leader board after posting his 5-under 67. As a team the Wildcats trail the Buccaneers by one stroke, ending the first round with a 5-under 283. Wake Forest sits in third after finishing the day at 2-under 286.

"That's only the second ever tournament round I played with no bogeys," Fuqua said. "That was definitely my best performance so far. I don't mind seeing my name atop the leader board, but there are 36 holes left. I was real level-headed, real calm today. Hopefully I can come out and play good again tomorrow."

Junior Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) and senior Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) also posted season-best scores for the Bucs. Findlay finished with a 2-under 70, and McNamara ended at 1-under 71. Findlay will enter the second round tied for sixth; while McNamara and Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Ireland) will begin the day in a 12-way tie for 11th. Sophomore Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) is currently tied for 23rd after finishing at even-par 72.

"We were very balanced today and played a good round of golf," added Warren. "Our guys are very talented young men and they are all experienced golfers."

ETSU will continue with second round play from the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Saturday morning and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com. A complete wrap up of the day's play will be available later in the evening at ETSUBucs.com.
