PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 3, 2014) – The ETSU men’s golf team sits in the middle of the pack in the 16-team field of the Sea Best Invitational after play was suspended on Monday evening from the PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
The 48th-ranked Buccaneers, who were sitting in fourth and ahead of No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 46 Tennessee after carding a team score of 15-over 303 in the opening round, moved to eighth (37-over) when play was suspended due to darkness. ETSU’s golfers were thru 16 holes of play in round two.
Freshman Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) led the Blue and Gold after the first 18 holes of competition as he was tied for 17th at 3-over-par 75. Meanwhile, Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.), Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland), and Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) were tied for 23rd at 4-over 76. When play was halted, Pugh was pacing ETSU as the Welshman was tied for 30th (9-over), while Hickman and Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) were tied for 36th at 10-over. Meronk dipped into a tie for 39th (11-over).
In team scoring, No. 36 Liberty held a seven-stroke lead over North Florida following first round play, 291-298, but the Ospreys made a move midway through the second round to overtake the Flames. UNF sits atop the leaderboard when play resumes on Tuesday with a two-shot advantage over Liberty as the Ospreys are 4-over-par.
UNF also has the lead in individual scoring as Austin Padova is 2-under thru 15 holes in round two and holds a one-shot lead over Ben Crancer from Texas A&M. Padova fired an even-par 72 in the opening round and Crancer was 1-under after the first 18 holes of play.
The teams will finish second round play at 8 a.m. Tuesday, and the final round is expected to get underway around 10 a.m., with a shotgun start.
