JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2014) – The rain was finally too much to overcome.
Persistent showers which caused multiple suspensions throughout the weekend ultimately brought the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club to a close early on Sunday, as play in the third and final round was cancelled. Teams had started play Sunday with the conclusion of the second round, but the rains returned again early in the third round and forced the cancellation.
In the end, No.12 Wake Forest took the team title by five strokes over host and 31st-ranked East Tennessee State, as the Demon Deacons finished at 18-under-par 558, while the Buccaneers finished second at 13-under-par 563. Individually, Will Zalatoris ended the event at 10-under-par 134 to make it a sweep for Wake Forest, while Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) was the best of three Bucs to finish in the Top 10, as he carded a two-round score of 6-under-par 138.
This marks the second time Wake Forest has captured the BOT Intercollegiate team title (2002, 2014) and the third second-place finish all-time for ETSU (2006, 2008, 2014).
