Meronk moves to No. 15 in latest Golfweek rankings

KAUAI, Hawaii (Nov. 2, 2014) – The 28th-ranked ETSU men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this week as the Bucs gear up for the Warrior Princeville Invitational, which begins Monday at the Princeville Makai Golf Club.

Junior Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) led the Bucs for the fifth straight time this season as Golfweek’s 15th-ranked golfer tied for 13th at the U.S. Collegiate Championship. Meronk totaled a three-round score of 3-under-par 213 (72-69-72).

As a team, the Blue and Gold placed 12th in a tournament field that featured 10 teams ranked in the top 25 nationally.

Junior Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.), who is ranked No. 96 by Golfweek, posted a 1-under-par 71 in the final round at the Golf Club of Georgia – Lakeside Course – on Oct. 19.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday and ends Wednesday.

Each round begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.

Cal State Fullerton won the 2013 team championship, but the Titans won’t return to defend their title as they wrapped up fall play on Oct. 21 at the Bill Cullum Invitational.

Louisville’s Robert Geibel won the individual crown a year ago and the Cardinal sophomore returns to Kauai to repeat as champion.

ETSU tied for 10th at last year’s Warrior Princeville Invitational at 12-under-par 852 (280-284-288), while the Bucs were led Meronk. Meronk finished tied for 20th at 5-under 211 (69-72-70).

Joining ETSU and tournament host Hawaii in this week’s field is Arizona State, Boise State, Cal Poly, Georgia Tech, Idaho, Louisville, McNeese State, Mississippi, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, and Utah.

Four teams in the field are ranked in the top 50 nationally. Those teams include No. 11 Georgia Tech, No. 28 Arizona State (Golfstat), No. 28 ETSU (Golfweek) and No. 42 Louisville.

Meronk and Hickman will be joined by senior Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales), sophomore Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) and freshman Cayman Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.).

ETSU is paired with San Diego and McNeese State on Monday.
