No. 28 ETSU in ninth after day one of competition

KAUAI, Hawaii (Nov. 3, 2014) – Juniors Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.) and Adrian Meronk  (Wroclaw, Poland) led the 28th-ranked ETSU men’s golf team in round one of the Warrior Princeville Invitational as the Buccaneer duo are tied for 20th and the Blue and Gold are in ninth following Monday’s round from the Makai Golf Club.

Hickman and Meronk both carded a 2-under-par 70, while ETSU posted a team score of 4-under-par 284. Meronk, the 15th-ranked golfer by Golfweek, registered five birdies in the opening round and was sitting 3-under after 14, but the Buccaneer walked away with a bogey on his second-to-last hole to finish with a 70. Meanwhile, Hickman was even-par through nine, but played the final nine at 2-under, moving him into a tie with Meronk.

The Bucs sit 12 shots back of No. 11 Georgia Tech as the Yellow Jackets hold the first round lead at 16-under-par 272. Georgia Tech enters Tuesday’s second round with a one shot lead over Ole Miss and a two stroke advantage over San Diego.

Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel sits atop the individual leaderboard after firing an 8-under-par 64, while San Diego’s Grant Forrest is one shot back at 7-under.

Senior Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) and sophomore Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) are both tied for 34th at even-par 72.

Second round play gets underway Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. The Bucs are paired with Pepperdine, Hawaii, and Boise State.
