SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 15, 2015) – Coming off his second win of the season, ETSU men’s golfer Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) was named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, announced the league office on Wednesday.

Kristjansson, who helped guide the 39th-ranked Buccaneers to a team win at The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, earned co-medalist honors after shooting a 3-under-par 137 in the weather-shortened event at The Old White TPC Course. Kristjansson carded a 2-under 68 in Monday’s opening round and posted a 1-under 69 in round two. Tuesday’s final round was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Buccaneer junior carded eight birdies in 36-holes of play and recorded a win for the second time in three tournaments as he also won with a record-breaking performance at last month’s Seminole Intercollegiate.

Kristjansson has a cumulative grade point average of 3.725 and is majoring in physics with a minor in math.

This marks the second time ETSU has won the award this year as baseball’s Chris Cook (Kingsport, Tenn.) received the honor on February 25.

Kristjansson and the Bucs now begin preparations for the Southern Conference Championship, which begins Sunday, April 19, at Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C.
