SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 7, 2015) – After being named Southern Conference Player of the Year following last month’s conference championship, ETSU junior Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) landed SoCon Golfer of the Month honors as the league office released its monthly award winners on Thursday.
Meronk turned in three top-five finishes in April, fashioning a 69.4 stroke average across three tournaments. The Buccaneer junior opened his month with a third-place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship, turning in a 4-under-par 209 against a field that included eight top-50 teams and nine top-50 individuals. The Palmer Cup player from Wroclaw, Poland, followed that up with a fifth-place finish at the Greenbrier Collegiate, turning in a 36-hole total of 1-under 139 to help the Bucs win the weather-shortened event. Meronk ended the month by turning in a consistent 9-under 207 at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship, firing three consecutive rounds of 3-under 69 to tie for the individual lead after 54 holes before falling in a sudden-death playoff to determine the medalist. Meronk’s strong showing helped ETSU to the team title, as the Bucs won a sudden-death playoff against UNCG to claim their record 18th SoCon title.
For the month, Meronk shot par or better in all eight of his rounds and combined to register a 14-under-par for the three tournaments. In addition, Meronk was named the SoCon Player of the Week on April 8 after his performance at the Mason Rudolph.
Meronk and the Bucs are now prepping for the NCAA Regional, which begins next Thursday in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., at The Farms Golf Club.
Meronk was one of three ETSU student-athletes to receive the SoCon monthly award for April as he was joined by Demeteria Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) of women’s track and filed and David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) of men’s tennis.
