SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (June 11, 2015) – ETSU’s Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) makes his Palmer Cup debut this weekend as the Buccaneer rising senior opens the three-day Ryder Cup-style competition on Friday morning at Rich Harvest Farms. Meronk claimed a spot on the European Team based on his points ranking as he was one of the top six golfers to earn an automatic berth on the 10-man team.
ABOUT MERONK
Meronk, the Southern Conference Player of the Year, played in all 13 tournaments for the Buccaneers this season and recorded nine top-10 finishes, including three medalist honors.
The Buccaneer has been ranked as high as No. 14 nationally in the collegiate rankings and cracked the top-50 of the World Amateur Rankings. Meronk currently ranks 28th in the collegiate Golfstat ranks and 60th in the World Amateur Rankings.
Meronk posted a scoring average of 70.65 this past season, while recording 12 rounds in the 60s and 29 rounds of par or better. Meronk led the Blue and Gold in 10 of their 13 tournaments this season, while the Bucs used his score in 36 of his 37 rounds played.
Meronk is the first golfer from Poland to participate in the Palmer Cup.
FORMER BUCS IN THE PALMER CUP
Meronk is the sixth ETSU golfer to play in the Palmer Cup and it’s the 11th time the Buccaneers will be represented in the tournament. The other five ETSU golfers to have been represented in the Palmer Cup are – Keith Nolan (1997), Chris Wisler (2000-01), Rhys Davies (2004-07), Gareth Shaw (2007-08), and Rhys Enoch (2010).
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The three-day tournament begins Friday morning with foursomes play, while the afternoon matches will be four-ball competition. The first group tees off Friday morning at 7:30 a.m., while the first group of afternoon play goes out at 1:30 p.m.
The format on Saturday and Sunday consists of singles matches starting at 8:30 a.m., each day.
The Palmer Cup champion will be determined by the team with the most points at the conclusion of three days of play. If the team is tied at the completion of the tournament, the previous years’ winner will retain the cup.
Europe won the 2014 Palmer Cup, 18-5-11.5, while USA leads the all-time series, 9-8-1. In total, 151 Palmer Cup alums have earned wins on the PGA Tour.
