NORMAN, Okla. (July 29, 2015) – A week after having a record-setting five student-athletes receive All-America Scholar honors, the ETSU men’s golf team was one of 169 programs to land academic honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), which was released by the organization on Wednesday.

As a team, ETSU recorded a team grade-point-average of 3.61, and received President’s Special Recognition for having a GPA above 3.5. The Bucs were one of 24 teams (10 Division I programs) to earn the distinction, marking the most since the academic team awards program began in 2009.

All eight ETSU men’s golfers registered a GPA above 3.0 this past season, which also landed them on the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.

Along with excelling in the classroom, the Blue and Gold also recorded many highlights on the course.

The Bucs won three tournaments this season, including the 2015 Southern Conference Championship, marking their 23rd conference championship in program history. To go with its conference championship, ETSU secured wins at Inverness Intercollegiate and at The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational, while the Blue and Gold also advanced to the NCAA Regional for the 24th time in school history. The Bucs moved into the Top-25 nationally and finished the year ranked 39th by Golfstat.

ETSU’s successful season also featured the SoCon Player of the Year, two All-Conference selections, an All-Freshman Team member, an All-American and one Palmer Cup player.

This is the seventh year of the academic team award. The Bucs have earned the honor in each of the seven seasons, including being the Academic National Champion in 2009.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
