ETSU begins play at The Prestige at PGA West on Monday  

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2016) – The ETSU men’s golf team escaped the winter weather as the Buccaneers open their 2016 spring season on Monday morning at The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif. 


The Blue and Gold wrapped up the fall season ranked 51st by Golfstat and 52nd by Golfweek, while senior All-American Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) was ranked 31st via Golfstat and 35th by Golfweek. 

ETSU, who played the 14th toughest schedule in the fall, earned runner-up honors at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, while also competing in the U.S. Collegiate Championship and hosting its annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. 

Meronk had three top-10 finishes in the fall, including a win at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, while fellow senior Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) earned a third-place showing at the Inverness Intercollegiate and junior Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) played in all five tournaments for the Buccaneers. 

Earlier this week, Golfweek pegged the Bucs as the favorite to repeat as SoCon champion as the conference championship will be held April 24-26 at Pinehurst No. 9. 


The 54-hole tournament will be contested over three days at the PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif. PGA WEST is the host of the CareerBuilder.com PGA Tour event in January and has hosted many world class professional and amateur events. 2016 marks the 14th year that The Prestige at PGA WEST has been hosted by PGA WEST. 

The Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST is par-71, 7,046-yards. 

The opening round begins Monday at 10:30 a.m. (EST), while round two will be held Tuesday and the final round is on Wednesday. All three rounds begin at 10:30 a.m. (EST).

Arizona State University returns to defend their 2015 Prestige at PGA WEST team champion led by Jon Rahm, the number one ranked amateur in the world. LSU, the 2015 NCAA Champions and USC, the NCAA runner-up team for 2015 are once again competing in The Prestige at PGA WEST field. Co-Host University and 2015 Pac 12 Champion Stanford University features 2015 Prestige individual champion Maverick McNealy.

The Prestige at PGA WEST is co-hosted by eight-time NCAA Champion Stanford University of the Pac 12 Conference and UC Davis of the Big West Conference.

The 14-team field features four teams ranked in the top-10, six in the top-30 and nine in the top-60. 

Individually, three golfers are ranked in the top-10, four in the top-25, and eight in the top-50. 


Joining Meronk, Gradecki and Mateusz in ETSU’s lineup this week is red-shirt freshman Conor Rodrigues (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) and freshman Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea)

The Blue and Gold lineup features two seniors, one junior and two freshmen. 

First round pairings have yet to be determined.
