CANBY, Ore. (March 20, 2016) – For the second time this spring season, the ETSU men’s golf team heads out west, but this go around the Buccaneers make the trek to the Pacific Northwest. ETSU gears up for the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic, which begins Monday from the Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore.

The Bucs began the spring season (Feb. 15-17), playing at The Prestige PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif.

ETSU finished tied for fourth at last weekend’s Seminole Intercollegiate, while senior Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) earned runner-up honors at Southwood Golf Club.

As a team, the Blue and Gold tied with Penn State at 8-under-par 856, and Meronk – who moved to fifth in the Palmer Cup Rankings earlier this week – posted a 54-hole score of 7-under-par 209 (67-73-69). After finishing one shot back of tournament winner Hank Lebioda of Florida State, Meronk was named Southern Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. Meronk recorded 33 pars and 14 birdies for the tournament.

Senior Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) – the 2015 Seminole Intercollegiate champion – finished the tournament strong as he fired a 4-under 68 in the final round last Saturday. Kristjansson tied for 13th at 2-under-par 214 (74-72-68), while junior Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) and freshman Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea) both tied for 35th at 2-over-par 218.

As a team, the Bucs enter the tournament ranked 51st via Golfstat and Meronk moved to 23rd in the rankings.

This week’s event features a two-day, 54-hole tournament, with shotgun starts both Monday and Tuesday.

Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, while the final 18 holes will be contested on Tuesday. The lowest four scores from a five-member team count toward the team totals.

The Willamette Valley Country Club is par-72, 6,976 yards.

This week’s tournament will give the teams a feel for the NCAA Championship, as the 2016 NCAA Championship is held at the Eugene Country Club, which is located an hour and a half south of the Willamette Valley Country Club.
