ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Oct. 22, 2016) – The ETSU men’s golf team wrapped up second round play at the prestigious Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Saturday afternoon.
Led by freshman Ben Reichert (East Amherst, N.Y.), the Buccaneers remain tied for 15th with a team score of 28-over-par 604 (300-304). Meahwhile, Reichert – who posted a 2-over-par 74 on Saturday at the Lakeside Course – is tied for tied for 17th at 1-over-par 145 (71-74).
Oklahoma entered the day atop the leaderboard and the eighth-ranked Sooners kept their two shot lead intact. The Sooners carded a 3-over 291 in round two, but Oklahoma is 2-under-par 574 (283-291) after 36 holes of play. No. 7 Virginia and No. 21 Texas A&M are tied for second at even-par 576, while No. 9 Wake Forest, No. 19 Southern California and No. 26 Duke are tied for fourth at 2-over-par 578. Southern Cal went low on Saturday by recording a 9-under 279 to jump nine spots up the leaderboard.
Virginia’s Jimmy Stanger kept his grip on the individual lead as he posted a 4-under 68 in round two and carries a two-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round. Stanger – the No. 18 ranked golfer via Golfstat – is 9-under-par 135 (67-68) after 36 holes of play and Oklahoma’s Max McGreevy is in second at 7-under-par 137 (68-69).
Sophomore Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea) tied Reichert for the lowest round by a Buccaneer as he also totaled a 2-over 74 on Saturday and is tied for 56th at 6-over-par 150 (76-74). Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Slaskie, Poland) is tied for 70th (+10) and Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) is tied for 78th (+12).
The field is traditionally one of the strongest in college golf, and 14 of the 17 teams this year are in the current Golfstat top 50. Six of those are ranked among the top 10, with four others in the top 25. Individually, six individuals in this weekend’s field are ranked in the top-10 of the Golfweek rankings, 12 in the top-25 and 18 in the top-50.
This marks the 12th straight year the Bucs are playing in this tournament.
ETSU tees off at 8 a.m., in Sunday’s final round. The Bucs are paired with No. 16 Clemson and No. 33 UCLA. The final round will be played from the Lakeside Course.
