SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2017) – The ETSU men’s golf team makes its final tune up before hosting the 20th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate as the Buccaneers head to Kentucky this weekend for the Louisville Cardinal Challenge. The three-day, 54-hole tournament opens Friday morning at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
ABOUT THE BUCS
The Bucs opened their 2017 fall season two weeks ago at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C. … ETSU was led by freshman Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) as he finished tied for 26th at 2-over-par 218 (71-75-72), while the Blue and Gold placed 11th.
Freshmen Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.) also made their collegiate debut in the Bucs’ season opener.
Sophomore Kevin Burns (Canton, Ga.) – who led the Bucs after 36 holes – placed tied for 40th at 7-over-par (71-74-78).
After one tournament, Go posts the fifth-best scoring average in the SoCon (72.67), while Carter and Burns rank 12th at 74.33.
ETSU’s roster features three freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and one senior.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
The Louisville Cardinal Challenge is a three-day, 54-hole tournament, which begins Friday morning at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
The course is a par-72, 7,192-yard layout.
The 54-hole event features 36 holes of play on Saturday with the final round being contested on Sunday … Saturday’s tee times are set to begin at 7:35 a.m., while Sunday’s groups start at 7:55.
Tee times are set between 9 – 11:20 a.m., with teams going off from No. 1 and No. 10.
ABOUT THE FIELD
Joining ETSU and Louisville in this weekend’s field are: DePaul, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Miami (Ohio), Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin and Winthrop.
Four teams are ranked in the top-100 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings – No. 48 Miami (Ohio), No. 69 Stephen F. Austin, No. 70 Stephen F. Austin, and No. 87 Eastern Kentucky.
ETSU’S LINEUP
The Bucs’ lineup features Shiso Go (#1), Kevin Burns (#2), Geuntae Kim (#3), Jack Rhea (#4) and Austin Carter (#5) … Sophomore Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) will be playing as an individual.
The group consists of three freshmen, one sophomore and one junior.
The Bucs will be grouped with Louisville and Louisiana-Monroe in Friday’s opening round. The Bucs tee off at 9 a.m. from No. 1.
