SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 20, 2019)– ETSU sophomore men’s golfer Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.)was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, announced the league office on Wednesday.
Carter, who helped guide the Blue and Gold to runner-up honors last weekend at the Schenkel Invitational, posted his best collegiate tournament performance from the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. The Kingsport, Tenn. native, who has registered four straight rounds of below par, finished tied for fifth at 4-under-par 212 (71-71-70), marking his top collegiate finish.
Carter helped guide the Bucs to the 36-hole lead after carding a 1-under 71 on Saturday, while he finished the tournament with 40 pars and nine birdies over the 54-hole tournament. As a team, ETSU finished 13-under-par, and with the help of Carter, the Bucs totaled the lowest score in par-4 scoring (+6) and par-5 scoring (-20) among the field of 14 teams in the tournament.
Carter, a sophomore, currently holds a 3.952 grade point average in health sciences. Carter is one of four Buccaneers to receive this award this season.
Carter and the Bucs gear up for the Mason Rudolph Championship, which is set for April 5-7 in Franklin, Tenn.
