STATESBORO, Ga. (Jan. 31, 2020) – The ETSU Buccaneers Men’s Golf team will resume its season this weekend with the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate beginning on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Statesboro, Ga. The Bucs will send a pair of golfers to the event in Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Sam Espinosa (Pedrena, Spain).

The Bucs are coming off a great fall season, finishing Top 2 in three of the five events in the 2019 fall campaign. ETSU opened the fall with a 2nd-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate and then finished second in the third event of the fall, the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Blue & Gold closed the fall season with a first-place finish at the Hoakalei CC Collegiate Invitational in Oahu Island, Hawaii. ETSU also claimed two individual titles as Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tenn.) won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) placed first at the Hoakalei CC Collegiate Invitational.
Carter will be one of two Bucs in action in Statesboro this weekend. The Kingsport, Tenn. native competed in three fall events, recording his best finish of T-62nd at the Hoakalei CC Collegiate Invitational. Carter’s low round of the fall season was an even-par (72) in the opening round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
Espinosa competed in two events in the fall, having to withdraw from the third due to an injury. The Spain freshman finished T-57th at the Windon Memorial in Lake Forest, Ill., his best collegiate finish. Espinosa has twice carded a career-low round of 74.
About the Tournament
This will be the second consecutive season that the Eagles have put on the GS Individual Collegiate.
The tournament is played at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course, a par-72, 6,900-yard course. The greens are TifEagle, while the tees and fairways are Tifway 419. The coursed opened in 2013 and is located six miles south of campus.
The construction of the golf course included the renovation of the 8,000 square foot clubhouse, an addition of a 10,000 square foot maintenance and golf cart storage facility, and a complete practice facility. The clubhouse houses a multi-purpose/meeting room, a café, golf shop, and administrative offices. The practice facility includes a 30-station practice range, chipping green, and a 10,000 square foot practice putting green.
