ETSU cards third-best round of the day

STATESBORO, Ga. (March 21, 2021) – The 2021 Schenkel Invitational came to an end on Sunday in Statesboro, Ga. as the ETSU Men’s Golf team climbed two spots into solo fifth on the leaderboard. The Bucs ended the tournament with a team score of 18-over-par (882), despite posting the third-best team score of the day at 9-over-par (297).

The Bucs were led by Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) who claimed his third Top-10 finish of the season, finishing T-4th in the field. The Florida native posted a final round of even-par (72) with three birdies and three bogeys in his round.

The second-best score of the day from the Blue & Gold belonged to Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) as he placed T-40th in the field following a 1-over-par (73) final round. Go carded two bogeys and one birdie in his final 18 holes of play. Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) had the second-best overall finish for the Bucs, placing T-18th after a 2-over-par (74) final round. Davies couldn’t quite recover from an early double bogey on the second hole, finishing his final 16 holes of golf with two bogeys and two birdies.

Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tenn.) finished T-58th after a 6-over-par (78) round on Sunday that featured just one birdie to go along with four bogeys and one triple bogey.

N.C. State won the event as the Wolfpack scored the only final round at even-par or better. N.C. State, claiming its second consecutive tournament win, finished with a team score of 25-under-par (839). The Wolfpack were followed by host Georgia Southern (+2) and Furman (+6).

N.C. State’s Benjamin Shipp claimed medalist honors with a tournament score of 15-under-par (200), followed by Christopher Gotterup (-5) of Rutgers and N.C. State’s Maximilian Steinlechner (-5).

ETSU will be back in action on Friday, March 26 when the Bucs travel to West Point, Miss. to compete in the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship hosted by Mississippi State.
