NEWPORT, Wales (July 21, 2021) – The reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) will be making his European Tour debut tomorrow at the Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale. The returning Buccaneer is one of only four amateurs invited to play at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.
Davies will be playing alongside Englishmen Matt Ford and Sean Towndrow, teeing off at 7:27 a.m. (ET). The trio will begin play on hole No. 1 both days. Round two will begin at 3:04 a.m. (ET) for the group. The Celtic Manor Resort will be playing as a par-71 this week, with four par 5s (two over 600 yards), five par 3s and nine par 4s. Fans can tune in to the Golf Channel from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. to watch one hour of coverage for the opening round on Thursday.
Davies is coming off a historic freshman campaign in which he became the first golfer in SoCon history to earn both Player and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season. Davies was named to the PING Division I East All-Region squad and lifted the Bucs to the 2021 SoCon Championship as he claimed the podium for his first collegiate win. Davies competed in all 11 tournaments and was an integral part in ETSU winning its first NCAA Regional since 2008. The rising redshirt-sophomore led ETSU with a 72.2 scoring average and finished inside the Top 10 on five occasions.
