Ege posts 5-under 65 in Sunday’s final round

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Sept. 11, 2022) – Led by redshirt sophomore Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway), the ETSU men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Sunday from Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale. 

Ege, who fired a 5-under 65 in Sunday’s final round, jumped 33 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 51st at even-par 210 (66-79-65). The 65 matched his lowest score as a Buccaneer as Ege recorded a 7-under 65 in his first round at the Marquette Intercollegiate. Ege, fresh off his trip to Paris for the World Team Amateur Championship, carded six birdies, 11 pars and one bogey on Sunday. For the tournament, Ege totaled one eagle, 11 birdies and 36 pars. 

Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Matty Dodd-Berry (Wirral, England) finished tied for 57th, along with redshirt junior Remi Chartier (Montreal, Canada) as the Buccaneer duo posted scores of 1-over-par 211. 

Individually, Tennessee’s Caleb Surratt earned medalist honors by registering a 54-hole total of 18-under-par 192 en route to winning by three shots over Florida State’s Cole Anderson. 

In team scoring, Auburn posted a wire-to-wire victory as the Tigers finished at 45-under-par 795, winning by five shots over Arizona State and by 10 over Florida State. 

ETSU climbed three spots on Sunday to finish 14th at 5-under-par 835. On Sunday, the Blue and Gold shot a 3-under-par 277. 

The Bucs return to action in two weeks when ETSU heads to Toledo, Ohio for the Inverness Intercollegiate, which will be held Sept. 26-27.
