ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Oct. 23, 2022) – Facing one of the toughest fields in collegiate golf, the ETSU men’s golf team wrapped up play at the 16th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Sunday from the Lakeside Course.
Redshirt junior Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) led the Blue and Gold as he finished tied for 15th with a 54-hole score of 3-under-par 213 (71-68-74). For the tournament, Davies totaled 35 pars and 11 birdies and played the par-5s at 5-under. Redshirt sophomore Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) – who registered the second-most birdies for the tournament with 18 – finished tied for 27th at 1-under-par 215 (68-70-77).
Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai earned medalist honors by posting a score of 13-under-par 203 (65-69-69) as he held off Duke’s Kelly Chinn to win by one stroke. Chinn fired the lowest round on Sunday at 6-under 66, but it wasn’t enough to chase down Tai.
Fifth-ranked Stanford made a Sunday charge to overtake tournament host and No. 13 Georgia Tech to win the team title. The Cardinal shot an 8-under 280 in the final round, finishing 23-under-par 841 (280-281-280) for the tournament. Georgia Tech finished tied for second with No. 25 Pepperdine at 22-under-par 842, while Tennessee (-14) and Georgia Tech’s “B” team (-13) rounded out the top five teams.
The Bucs shot a 6-over 294 on Sunday to finish the tournament in 13th-place at 4-over-par 868.
Freshman Carson Kammann (Knoxville Tenn.) recorded ETSU’s lowest round on Sunday as he finished with a 1-under 71. Kammann collected two birdies and eagled the par-5, 542-yard No. 1.
This year’s field featured all 13 teams playing in the 2022 NCAA Regionals, while six teams – including the Blue and Gold – playing in the 2022 NCAA Championship.
The Bucs now have a quick turnaround as they head to Maui for their final tournament of the fall season by playing in the Ka’anapali Classic, which gets underway Friday.
