ETSU men’s golf defeats Augusta in match play event

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Feb. 2, 2023) — The ETSU men’s golf team made a tune up before opening its 2023 spring season as the Buccaneers took on Augusta in a match play event Thursday at the Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Ga. 

ETSU, the defending Southern Conference champion, defeated Augusta, 9.5 to 3.5. 

The match featured nine holes of alternate shot, nine holes of best ball and singles play. 

In alternate shot, Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) and Algot Kleen (Fiskebackskil, Sweden) won their match 3&2, while the duo of Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) / Matty Dodd-Berry (Wirral, England) and Remi Chartier (Montreal, Canada) / Carson Kammann (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied their matches. 

In best ball, the teams of Kleen/Ege and Chartier/Kammann won their matches, 1 up. 

The Blue and Gold did a lot of damage in singles as they picked up five wins and one tie. 

Local product Jack Tickle (Bristol, Tenn.) won his match, 1-up, while Kleen and Ege each won, 5&4. Davies earned a win over his Augusta opponent, 5&3, and Kammann won, 4&3. Chartier tied his match. 

The Bucs now gear up for a trip to Puerto Rico as they play in the Puerto Rico Classic starting Sunday, Feb. 12.
