Ege picks up first career PING East Region honor

NORMAN, Okla. (May 27, 2023) – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its PING All-Region honorees on Saturday, and ETSU’s Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) landed a spot on the East Region team.

Ege, the 2023 Southern Conference Player of the Year, has won two tournaments and registered seven top-10 finishes for the Blue and Gold in 2022-23. The Norwegian won his first collegiate tournament at the General Hackler Championship when he posted a score of 13-under-par 203, while he also won the SoCon individual crown at 14-under-par 202, marking his lowest 54-hole total.

Playing in all 12 tournaments totaling 36 rounds for the Bucs this season, Ege has generated a team-best scoring average of 69.72. Ege has turned in 29 rounds of par or better and 20 rounds in the 60s, including a career-best 8-under 64 in the opener of the Puerto Rico Classic in February.

Ege’s 69.72 scoring average currently stands as the top mark in single-season program history and he set a new program record with his two birdies in Friday’s opening round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. Ege moved his season birdie total to 173, breaking Rhys Davies’ record of 171, set in 2006-07. Ege is also eyeing a few more single-season records as his 3.963 scoring average on par-4s and 4.4762 on par-5s currently stand as single-season school records.

This marks Ege’s first career PING All-Region honor.
