NORMAN, Okla. (June 6, 2023) – ETSU men’s golf standout Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) was named PING All-American Honorable Mention as the 2023 Division I PING All-American Teams were announced on Tuesday.
This honor is sandwiched into a busy week for Ege – who just finished up play at a U.S. Open Qualifier in Columbus, Ohio on Monday – and is now gearing up for the Palmer Cup, which begins Thursday in at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
Ege is coming off a historic season where he set ETSU single-season records in scoring average (70.00), birdies (177) and par-5 scoring average (4.51). The Southern Conference Player of the Year played in all 13 tournaments for the Blue & Gold, spanning 39 rounds played. In total, Ege registered 30 rounds of par or better and 20 rounds in the 60s, including a career-low 8-under 64, set in the opener of the Puerto Rico Classic.
Ege captured his first two collegiate wins this 2022-23 season – the first coming at the General Hackler Championship – where he posted a 54-hole score of 13-under-203. At the time, that marked his lowest 54-hole collegiate total until he bested that mark at the SoCon Championship where he also earned medalist honors. Ege fired a 14-under-par 202 at the conference championship to win by four strokes.
Overall, Ege recorded seven top 10 finishes in 2022-23, and also earned PING All-Region honors.
This marks the fourth straight year ETSU has earned a PING All-American honor, while it’s the first one for Ege.
