JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2012) – Below are a list of all the ETSU Athletic events taking place for the week of Sept. 17-23.

Men’s Cross Country

This week: Idle

Last week: ETSU finished sixth at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday night in Blacksburg, Va. Anders Ludvigsen (Odense, Denmark)  paced the Blue and Gold with a time of 25:50.50, good for 28th-place.  Senior Landon Milhorn (The Woodlands, Texas) was the second ETSU runner to cross the finish line with a time of 25:58.21, followed by freshmen Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.), who clocked a 25:29.64 mark. 

Women’s Cross  Country

This week: Idle

Last week: The ETSU women’s cross country team was led by freshman Katie Hirko (Oley, Pa.) as she completed the 5K run in 10th-place (21:58.79), while the Bucs as a team placed fourth at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday evening.

Men’s Golf

This week: The Bucs travel to Franklin, Tenn. to play in the Mason Rudolph Invitational with the first round beginning Friday, Sept. 21, and the final round concluding on Sunday, Sept. 23. Live stats coverage will be available via

Last week: ETSU finished fifth in its fall opener at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, while freshman Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and sophomore Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) posted top-10 finishes at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. Kristjansson tied for sixth with a 2-under-par 214 (68-73-73), while Pugh – who was three shots off the lead entering the final round – finished ninth (215).

Women’s Golf

This week: The ETSU women’s golf team opens fall play when the Bucs head to Simpsonville, Ky. to play in the Cardinal Cup, hosted by the University of Louisville. The 15-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning both days at 8:40 a.m.

Men’s Soccer (4-2-0)

This week: The ETSU men’s soccer team continues its four-game road swing this weekend as the Bucs visit Lexington to face Kentucky Wednesday night (7 p.m.), before ending the week with a trip to Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday night (7 p.m.) when the Blue and Gold tangle with Winthrop. Last week: The Bucs dropped their only match of the week when ETSU suffered a double overtime setback at Davidson, 2-1, Saturday night. Junior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored the lone goal for the Blue and Gold in the 16th minute, marking his team-leading fourth score of the season. Unfortunately, the Wildcats scored two unanswered goals, including Peter Paras’ golden goal with 8:35 left in the contest.

Women’s Soccer (6-2-0)

This week: Atlantic Sun Conference play begins for the Bucs this weekend when Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast make the trip to Summers-Taylor Stadium. ETSU tangles with Stetson on Friday night at 7 p.m., before taking on reigning A-Sun Tournament champion, FGCU, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Live video will be offered for free on A-Sun.TV, while live stats will be run via

Last week: Junior Samantha Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) scored her first goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to propel the ETSU women’s soccer team to a win at Longwood, as the Lancers defeated the Bucs, 2-1, on Friday afternoon in Farmville, Va.

Men’s Tennis

This week: The ETSU men’s tennis team travels to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the UVA Ranked +1, beginning on Friday, Sept. 21. The tournament ends on Sunday, Sept. 23 and full recaps with scores will be posted on

Women’s Tennis

This week: The Bucs will play in their second tournament of the fall season when ETSU heads to Spartanburg, S.C. for the USC Upstate Invitational. The three-day tournament begins Friday, Sept. 21, and full recaps with scores will be provided on

Volleyball (9-5)

This week: ETSU opens conference play this week when the Blue and Gold travel to Mercer on Tuesday night (6 p.m.) before wrapping up the week with a home match versus USC Upstate Friday at 7 p.m. Free live video will be offered for both matches this week on A-Sun.TV, while live stats for the Mercer game will be available on will provide live stats for Friday’s match with the Spartans.

Last week: The Bucs snapped their three-game losing skid with a sweep over Western Carolina (25-20, 25-14, 25-11) on Tuesday night in Brooks Gym. The Bucs tied their season high with nine service aces, five of which came in the third set, including three by sophomore Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.). Hardy also added nine kills, four digs, and five blocks – moving her streak of finishing with at least one block to 40 consecutive matches. Along with Hardy, freshman Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) hit .429 (4-1-7), while also collecting four blocks. Senior Kayla Williams (El Paso, Texas) – who was honored prior to the match with a special game ball after registering her 1,000th career assist last weekend at the Bama Bash – quarterbacked the ETSU offense by finishing with 33 assists, seven digs, and five blocks.
